Pamela Stern       Clay sculpture, jewelry and painting

I have been making art since I could hold a crayon. I have drawn and painted and made a living as an illustrator, but when I found clay I fell in love and haven't looked back. It seems as if the sculptures come from a very deep subconcious level and frequently surprise and sometimes scare me. I love that. There is  magic and enchantment in working with a material that can be formed into any shape and then becomes solid and rocklike and will last forever. Most of my sculptures deal with women and nature and the beauty,  mystery and humor that I find everywhere. I often do not understand the pieces until they have been in this world for  a while and I can think about them. The work is therapeutic and revelatory and a joy to do.  It is also wonderful to find people who are touched by one in some way and to hear other interpretations. There aren't enough hours to do all the ideas I have. I am a very lucky gal.
